Job
Brief:
The
Ceramic Engineer is responsible for a broad range of activities
supporting the development of the Liquid Tin Anode Solid Oxide Fuel
Cell development program. Responsible for development of ceramic
fabrication processes, and design and evaluation of ceramic
components for single cells and stacks. Will assist in the
development of designs for cells, stacks and systems. Occasional
travel required.
Essential Functions:
Develop and refine ceramic materials and processes to support cell designs working with suppliers and internal staff.
Supervise suppliers of ceramic components to assure delivery and integration of required materials to support design, fabrication and test programs.
Oversee internal development programs for next generation ceramic designs.
Work with design team to develop cell/stack assembly methodologies to support prototype fabrication and testing.
Assist in the development of test methods and test equipment for single cells and stacks.
Participate in analysis of test data and development of design refinements.
Provide written records of technical work including design reports, fabrication reports, test reports and monthly status reports.
Ability to work independently as an integral part of a small, fast-paced development team, playing multiple roles.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
BS or MS in ceramics or materials with at least 3 years industry experience. Prefer candidates with a variety of ceramics materials and processing experience including densification and controlled porosity processes, tape casting, injection molding, extrusion, isostatic pressing and slip casting. Knowledge of quality assurance and statistical methodologies. SOFC fuel cell experience helpful.

System Mechanical Engineer is responsible for a broad range of
activities supporting Liquid Tin Anode Solid Oxide Fuel Cell
development program. Responsible for design, development,
implementation, and evaluation of prototype liquid tin anode fuel
cell balance of plant for power systems smaller than 1 kW.
Occasional travel required.
Essential Functions:
Develop system concepts utilizing liquid tin anode fuel cell and analyze for efficiency, weight and other performance parameters.
Design and oversee fabrication of system test platforms including brassboard and packaged systems.
Interact with suppliers of components and mechanical/electrical balance of plant items to assure delivery and integration of required materials to support test programs.
Develop system control algorithms including start-up and shut down protocols.
Create cell/stack/system assembly drawings and assembly methodologies to support prototype fabrication and testing.
Assist in the development of test methods and test equipment for single cells, stacks and systems.
Participate in analysis of test data and development of design refinements.
Provide written records of technical work including design reports, test reports and monthly status reports.
Ability to act independently while working as an integral part of a small, fast-paced development team, playing multiple roles.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
BSME, EE or ChE, Masters preferred. Minimum of 3 years industrial experience with mechanical and ceramic part design using SolidWorks, high temperature materials and small power system design. Knowledge of fuel cell technology and applications or military hardware development is a plus.
